Long time readers of Monkey Defies Gravity will know how much of a collective man-crush I have on Baroness. I have long thought that I might explode with excitement should I ever get to see them.
Well, I shall be able to test my hypothesis on July 12 at tiny London club, Barfly – that’s just five days before the UK release of Yellow & Green. Let’s hope the staff don’t have to scrape me off the walls and ceiling. It could be messy.
I can’t believe a band of this stature is playing a 200-capacity venue in the UK capital in 2012. I also can’t believe I managed to snag a ticket. Thank you Songkick.
Aside from the potential mess, another reason to avoid spontaneous explosion is to make sure I am still around on August 16 for….
KVELERRRRRRTAAAAAAAAK!
Words fail me to describe how amped I am for this, their one-off UK show at another tiny London venue, The Borderline in Soho.
Given how cranking their debut never fails to light me up, I can’t quite get my head around how I will react to their three-axe attack in the flesh.
No word yet on who is supporting at either show but it could be Kylie and fucking Jason for all I care.
I’ll leave you with the new Baroness single Take My Bones Away
Not quite sure how I missed that this was out, aside from the fact that I was wandering the streets of London dazed and confused of course.
While Take My Bones Away continues the smoothing out of their sound that has come with each new release, I definitely like it. It still has that euphoric hookiness that has been there from day dot even if it loses some of that crunch and JBD’s roar.
If this is their pitch for the mainstream, it’s a lot better than The Hunter.
We shall see.
Got myself a ticket to see Baroness in Sheffield in August, very much looking forward to that! Liking the new song, there’s an official free download of it here; http://rcrdlbl.com/artists/Baroness/track/Take-My-Bones-Away/embed/#.T8e16SM4qFU.twitter
Excellent news! I hope we get plenty of older stuff as well as the new material. I have the new song and must have listened to it 50 times now! I like it a lot even though I’m a little sad at the passing of their heavier style.
