Weedeater – God Luck and Good Speed

Weedeater

The very well balanced Dixie Collins of Weedeater

Before I turn to Weedeater masterpiece God Luck and Good Speed, let me explain. I came late to the sludge party.

I didn’t even know what sludge was until I was blown away by Baroness’ Blue Record. Excited about the Georgians’ thrilling sound, I devoured every morsel of information I could about them

A word that kept coming up was “sludge”. Down the rabbit hole I tumbled headfirst and now I’m hooked. Not on pure sludge – single genre music is boring as batshit.

Great Art Blog – Eye Bleed Ink

Kylesa artwork by Santos from Eye Bleed Ink

I’ve just discovered this amazing blog Eye Bleed Ink by Santos, the artist responsible for Kylesa’s Spiral Shadow – one of my albums of 2010, as well as T-shirts and stage items for live shows. I really love his dark pyschedelic pen and ink style.

In his blog, Santos talks through his various designs and the inspiration behind them.

It’s fascinating to discover the level of thought that goes into the art, it’s so much more than throwing together some “cool” skulls and trippy motifs. I hope you enjoy it.

Kylesa Spiral Shadow

Kylesa Spiral Shadow

Kylesa Spiral Shadow

I absolutely love the new Kylesa, Spiral Shadow. It’s hugely different from Static Tensions and while that upset me a little at first I have found room in my life for both.

While ST is fierce and brutal with psychedelic tendencies, the new one is some kind of pysch-sludge-pop. And no, its nothing like Torche.

It’s also lovely and heavy, like being lain on by a bear that’s dribbling honey into your ear.

Plus Laura Pleasants is hot. Sorry, I’m not a sexist pig really.

There’s an excellent track-by-track from principle songwriters Pleasants and Philip Cope at Altpress.com.
