Thanks to Spinal Tapdance for alerting me to Acephalix. They inhabit that fertile space where crust, death and hardcore go to make twisted evil babies.
Acephalix posess a lumbering swagger as well as a dirty, stained sack of buzzsaw riffs. They occupy their own niche between Okkultokrati and Black Breath, or even All Pigs Must Die, and boast a tasty dash of prime Slayer in their filthy brew.
Interminable Night is out on Southern Lord on May 24 and if the recent demo EP is anything to go by, it should be a (face) ripper. Acephalix have dialed down the crust a notch from debut Aporia in favour of a beefier, lurching low-end and a more metallic sound.
Sounds interesting. I’ll keep my eye out for that one. I haven’t really listened to any crust, although I’m familiar with the general sound of it. A heavier sound is, almost universally, a better thing.
I reckon you will like this one. Straight up crust is uninteresting to me but mix it with the more extreme strains of metal and I’m hooked. Same with d-beat and hardcore.
I’ve got my mitts on the full album and boy oh boy is it a killer. I’ll definitely be posting in more detail about it.
Even if you don’t like the songs on this one (I just heard the whole thing, my bad, I’m delayed), the tone is absolutely MASSIVE. Wow.
